Picking up the new year where he left off Asta Hiroki presents new single ‘Double Rainbow’ via his own Folded Music imprint.

‘Double Rainbow’ showcases his penchant creating modern conceptual work and for pairing dreamy soundscapes and arrangements with lofi aesthetics and abstract instrumental hip hop. The track is awash with heavenly vocals and orchestral elements that creates a celestial atmosphere underpinned by a brawny beat and bass to earth it.

The use of rain-like percussion and a clever sample flip of a particular children’s nursery rhyme are knowing nods to the title, with the piece as a whole looking to emanate a feeling of magic, awe, and luck akin to that of seeing a rare double rainbow.

At times the textural interplay reminds of Teebs or DJ Shadow-like combinations of elegance and muscle, yet it remains undeniably unique and true to Asta Hiroki’s style. After a healthy dose of beats there is a pleasant twist awaiting the patient listener with a tasteful strings outro taking the track in a more emotive and bare direction before it’s finish.

Since incorporating Folded Music the producer/visual artist has gone from strength to strength, picking up wide support at radio from Tom Ravenscroft, Chris Hawkins and Huey Morgan at BBC 6Music, spins on the flagship MBE show on KCRW and other European national station support from the likes of FIP, Couleur 3 and Radio Eins. Not to mention some stellar streaming figures thanks to placements on Spotify’s coveted Jazztronica and Lofi Beats editorial playlists.

Asta Hiroki is currently writing his second album slated for release in 2022, and running Folded Music to champion the best modern music by artists operating in the independent worlds.
