Leftfield producer and visual artist - Asta Hiroki delivers a mellow jazzy hip hop beauty on ‘Between Love and Happiness (feat. Muhsinah)’, a hazy dream of a beat record that drifts into view and caresses your ears before floating away into the ether...
Providing the vocal focus on this single is the wonderfully soulful Washington DC -based vocalist – Muhsinah. A singer of real pedigree, who has collaborated with the likes of Flying Lotus, 14KT, Common, and Robert Glasper to name a few. Showing all of her talent in this track she lyricises about the difficult moments in relationships and provides a sleek, sensual and honest vocal performance.
And it’s packed up with a delicious side serving - ‘Losing Touch’ is a joint that wouldn’t be out of place in a Knxwledge or Madlib set. Morphing and shifting ideas from soulful, head-nodding beat into leftfield, ambient boom-bap.
It’s a proper release for the beat heads, and for those individuals who prefer their tracks sans-vocals there is an instrumental mix of the lead track included also.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
