about

Asta Hiroki returns with a new EP on his own Folded Music imprint, drawing from a wide-span palette of influences to create a compact 4-tracker of left field, jazz infused, psychedelic instrumental beats.

The collection was created with an ethos of embracing shorter duration tracks, atypical arrangements, and various modern beat scene production techniques as it straddles the worlds of hip hop and electronica.

The release artwork portrays a hazy cubist landscape of complex structures that fits snugly with the collection, that despite clocking in at just under eight and a half minutes, covers a surprising amount of musical territory.

'Never Lose An Opportunity' stirs up nostaglia with a grooving piece inspired by library music, 70's TV themes, and jazz funk bands. Yet arranged with a beatmakers ear. FFO: DJ Shadow, David Axelrod, BADBADNOTGOOD and the like.

Second track 'Transition' starts life as a relaxed but off-kilter beat with cosmic tendencies before devolving into a jazzed-out black hole of an outro and preceding the hazy laid back soul of 'Lull' - a track that embodies its lackadaisical namesake in all its respective elements, while retaining the kind of head-nodding quality that is hard to shake long after the track finishes.

Final track 'A Golden Vision' takes the listener on a trip into futures passed with it's heady blend of vintage sounds, live strings and vocals all melted into an electronica waltz.

Since incorporating Folded Music Asta Hiroki has gone from strength to strength, picking up wide support at radio from Tom Ravenscroft, Chris Hawkins, Cerys Matthews, and Huey Morgan at BBC 6Music, MBE on KCRW, FIP, Couleur 3 and Radio Eins. Not to mention press heavyweights XLR8R and some stellar streaming figures thanks to placements on Spotify’s coveted Jazztronica and Lofi Beats editorial playlists.
